Netherlands: Forum for Democracy attacks D66's housing plan over immigration

Forum for Democracy (FVD) lawmaker Tom Russcher criticised the liberal party D66’s housing programme, arguing that the party’s promise to build tens of thousands of new homes is aimed at accommodating migrants rather than Dutch citizens. He singled out D66’s pledge to create “new cities” as evidence of a policy that, in his view, conflates the housing shortage with the asylum debate.

D66, which markets itself as “the housing party” and uses the housing crisis to recruit members, responded by defending its plan to address the shortage through large‑scale construction. The dispute was amplified on social media when FVD leader Lidewij de Vos shared Russcher’s comment on her X account, highlighting the intra‑parliamentary clash over migration and housing policy in the Netherlands.
