Netherlands holds awareness sessions for seniors on online fraud
Local authorities and organizations in the Netherlands are hosting information sessions to protect seniors from increasing digital crime. In Badhoevedorp, 185 seniors attended a meeting organized by the police, Rabobank, NHVeilig, and the municipality of Haarlemmermeer to learn about phishing, buying and selling fraud, and bank helpdesk scams.
In Burgum, an initiative by a local seniors' association, the police, and the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel addressed the rise of digital scams. Organizers noted that incidents involving fake agents have increased significantly, reaching 13,000 in 2025. The sessions aim to provide practical tips and printed materials to help vulnerable individuals recognize and prevent online fraud.
