Netherlands hosts community events for World Alzheimer Day

Various municipalities in the Netherlands are organizing activities to observe World Alzheimer Day 2026 under the theme ‘Ik blijf meedoen’ (I keep participating). These initiatives aim to promote social inclusion, recognition, and dialogue for people living with dementia and their caregivers.

In Alphen aan den Rijn, Castellum Theater & Film will host free screenings of the Dutch film ‘De Terugreis’ and the documentary ‘Kind van Dementie’ in late September. These screenings are a collaboration between the municipality and Transmuralis, designed to provide a low-threshold way for residents to remain active and connected to their community.

In Zutphen and Warnsveld, an action week will run from September 16 to September 23. The program includes walking, creative activities, music, and social gatherings. Specific events include an opening at the Alzheimer Café, a film screening of ‘Ben je bij mij’ at Cinemajestic, and a closing event featuring walking football and memory-based activities.
