Netherlands hosts national Week of Palliative Care

The national Week of Palliative Care will take place from October 5 to October 9, focusing on the importance of discussing the final stages of life. Organized by De Zorgcirkel, various activities will be held in locations including Wormer, Volendam, Purmerend, Alkmaar, and Egmond to facilitate knowledge sharing and dialogue.

A central feature of the week is a national tour by Palliatieve Zorg Nederland (PZNL). A specialized Volkswagen bus, carrying patients and palliative care professionals, will travel to different organizations to exchange practical experiences. On October 9, the tour will visit the Torenerf residential care location in Wormer to highlight collaborative care models.

Experts emphasize that palliative care is not limited to the final days of life but focuses on improving the quality of life and comfort for individuals living with incurable illnesses and their loved ones. Facilitating early conversations about wishes and expectations is considered essential for tailoring care to patient needs.
