Netherlands hosts regional weeks for foster care and parenting

Various regions in the Netherlands are hosting dedicated awareness weeks focused on foster care and parenting support. In Drenthe, the Week of Foster Care runs from October 28 to November 4, aiming to recognize foster parents for the stability and attention they provide to children. To show appreciation, foster families receive gifts such as calendars and access to local attractions. Organizations including Pleegzorg Drenthe and Stichting Pleegwijzer are also organizing community lunches to strengthen cooperation between foster parents, biological parents, and professionals.

Simultaneously, the Week of Upbringing is taking place in Leiden and Leiderdorp from October 26 to November 1. Under the theme ‘Look through my eyes,’ the initiative offers free activities designed to help parents and caregivers better understand children and adolescents. Programs include workshops for parents of young children to explore how toddlers perceive the world, as well as theatrical performances for parents of teenagers to gain insight into adolescent behavior and communication.
