Netherlands hosts summer nature bike rides and senior safety courses
From early August through mid‑September, the municipalities of De Ronde Venen and Uithoorn organized free 25‑kilometre summer bike rides. Participants follow a leisurely route through the local landscape, with naturalists providing short talks on regional nature and developments. No prior registration is required and riders are asked to bring their own drink.
In Nunspeet, Veilig Verkeer Nederland partnered with the local council to run a free refresher cycling course for riders aged 65 and older on 17 August. The half‑day session covers traffic rules, handling busy bike lanes, and fall‑prevention techniques, and includes an optional supervised practice circuit. Registration is required by 7 August.
Both initiatives aim to encourage safe, long‑term cycling and promote appreciation of the Dutch countryside.
