Netherlands housing and urban development projects advance
Various residential and commercial development projects are progressing in the Netherlands. In Zevenhuizen, the municipality of Westerkwartier has announced the sale of two building plots, ZO24 and ZO25, in the Zevenhuizen Oost residential area. The sale is scheduled to take place via a digital allocation procedure from August 31 to September 21, 2026.
In Zaandam, developer Midvast has applied for a permit for the Westzijde 24–36 project. The proposal includes approximately 100 homes and new retail spaces, while preserving existing cultural-historical facades. The project has faced local opposition regarding the height of the buildings, with residents expressing concerns over reduced sunlight and views.
Additionally, a proposal for the Behouden Haven area in Zaandam-West involves the construction of 110 care homes and a primary school for 250 students. Local residents have criticized the project, citing concerns over potential parking issues, noise pollution, and an inadequate public participation process.
