Netherlands implements new traffic safety and speed limit measures
Local authorities in the Netherlands are implementing new traffic measures to address speeding and safety concerns in residential areas.
In the Baarn area, residents of the ‘wet triangle’ have spent eight years campaigning for better enforcement on the Amsterdamsestraatweg. Following extensive measurements showing approximately 10,000 speeding violations daily among 21,000 to 21,500 vehicles, an application for a speed camera has been submitted to the Public Prosecution Service. If approved, the camera is expected to be operational by 2027.
In Wilnis, the municipality has decided on a redesign for the Burgemeester Padmosweg. Due to the poor condition of the road surface and limited physical space, the maximum speed limit will be reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h. The plan also involves moving cyclists from a separate path onto the main roadway to accommodate the construction of a new sidewalk for pedestrians.
