Netherlands initiatives target elderly loneliness
Various initiatives in the Netherlands are addressing loneliness among the elderly through community events and professional training. In Rotterdam, the Seniorenraad, Wijkraad Kralingen, and Wijkraad Crooswijk are organizing a Day Against Loneliness on September 30 at the Excelsior stadium. The event aims to host between 150 and 200 seniors for lunch and entertainment, including music and a quiz.
In the long-term care sector, SKILZ is hosting a free webinar on September 28 focused on guidelines for addressing loneliness. The session will feature insights from nursing specialists and physicians to provide practical tools for healthcare professionals to recognize and discuss social isolation with patients. Additionally, the Regenboog Senioren dag is scheduled for September 26 in Amsterdam, offering lectures and activities to foster connection among LGBTQ+ seniors.
