Netherlands renewable energy sector expands with record cooperative funding, new solar projects and rising capacity

Energy cooperative De Windvogel closed 2025 with more than €2 million raised from its members, a record that Antoinette Sol says highlights the need for larger capital as turbines grow to 5 MW and beyond. The cooperative model is seen as a key driver of local decarbonisation in the Dutch energy system.

Deltawind released its public 2025 annual report, outlining activities such as research on warm‑net solutions in Middelharnis, the start of the Burgerwindpark A2 project, collaborations on the Energy House, and other local sustainability initiatives.

Meewind and Sunrock have teamed up to install solar panels on the roofs of Dutch distribution centres, targeting 1.5 million panels. The first joint project is slated for May, expected to generate 140 GWh of green electricity per year and cut CO₂ emissions by about 75,000 tonnes annually.

VertiCer’s SDE++ data show a net addition of 98.5 MW of solar capacity in the first half of 2026 after retroactive adjustments, bringing total registered capacity to nearly 16.5 GW across more than 35,000 projects. The figures also reveal a slowdown in new project registrations and highlight data‑quality issues in the subsidy registry.
