Netherlands launches 49‑euro summer train pass and 10‑euro bus day tickets

The Dutch national railway operator NS introduced the "Nederland Dal Vrij Trein" subscription on June 1, 2024. For €49 a month travelers can ride unlimited off‑peak and weekend trains across the country, with the offer running through the summer and a two‑month trial for sign‑ups before June 30. The scheme is subsidised by the national government, which set a budget ceiling that could halt sales if exceeded.

Inspired by the cheap train ticket, the OV‑bureau Groningen‑Drenthe and regional bus operator Qbuzz rolled out a summer promotion for bus travel in Groningen and Drenthe. From now until August 31, a Solo‑Broezzz’n ticket allows unlimited bus rides for a single day at €10, with children travelling free. The initiative aims to boost tourism and provide a complementary option for destinations not served by train.

Both measures target increased public‑transport use and cost‑effective summer travel for residents and visitors.
