Netherlands launches 49‑Euro summer train pass, cheaper than Germany's 63‑Euro ticket

The Dutch railway company NS has introduced a summer discount ticket called the "Nederland Dal Vrij Trein". The pass costs 49 euros per month and can be used from 15 June until 31 August. It is valid only on domestic train services and is restricted to off‑peak times: weekdays from 09:00‑16:00 and 18:30‑06:30, and from Friday evening until Monday 04:00 on weekends. International trains are excluded.

At 49 euros, the Dutch ticket is notably cheaper than Germany's Deutschlandticket, which is priced at 63 euros and offers unlimited access to all public transport, including regional trains, S‑Bahn, U‑Bahn, trams and buses. Because of its limitations, the Dutch pass is aimed primarily at tourists and occasional travelers rather than daily commuters living in the Netherlands.
