Netherlands launches €49 summer train pass to offset fuel price rise
From 15 June the Dutch government and rail operators introduced the “Nederland Dal Vrij” subscription, allowing unlimited travel on regional trains for €49 per month. The offer is available for up to two months and ends on 31 August, with a final purchase deadline of 31 July. Children up to 11 travel free under the existing Kids Vrij scheme.
The measure results from a parliamentary motion aimed at mitigating the impact of rising fuel and energy costs on commuters. Each month 700,000 passes are made available. A high demand caused a temporary outage on the NS webshop, preventing some users from ordering the subscription on the first day of sales.
