Netherlands launches 'Nieuwe Energie' campaign to cut household power use

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate has started the refreshed public campaign "Nieuwe Energie". The initiative offers simple actions – such as shorter showers and better home insulation – that citizens can adopt to lower their energy consumption and bills.

The campaign is part of a broader plan to shift the national energy mix from imported fossil fuels to wind, solar, nuclear and hydrogen. It ties into the government’s "Resilience to Energy Shock" measures announced in April, and comes as Middle‑East tensions highlight the vulnerability of global energy markets. Minister Van Veldhoven said, "Affordable, reliable energy can no longer be taken for granted; saving energy is always wise, and the cheapest energy is the energy you don’t use."
