Netherlands launches wooden social housing tower in Brunssum and new beachfront playground at Drievliet

A 25‑metre tall wooden residential tower began construction in Brunssum, Limburg. The project will provide 39 social rental units built from 750 tonnes of mass timber across eight levels, with a new floor added every two weeks, halving the typical construction time. Designed by Mathieu Bruls Architects and built by Smeets Bouw en Wonen Limburg, the tower showcases sustainable, carbon‑sequestering construction.

On 17 July, the Drievliet amusement park opened the “Juttersnest” beachfront playground as part of a €2.5‑3 million park renewal. The multi‑level play area, created with natural materials such as willow mats, expands the park’s capacity and offers themed climbing routes for children of all ages, complemented by a nearby refreshment point.
