Netherlands linear television viewership declines amid streaming rise

Linear television viewership in the Netherlands is experiencing a decline, particularly among viewers under the age of 65 and highly educated demographics. Data from weeks 35 to 40 shows that viewing time for linear TV dropped by 8% compared to the same period in 2025. This decline is attributed to the increasing availability of video-on-demand (VOD) and social media platforms such as Netflix, Videoland, and Instagram.

Despite the general downward trend, some programs continue to perform well. The MAX program ‘Van onschatbare waarde’ has seen improved viewership compared to the previous season. Meanwhile, on Netflix, popular titles in the Netherlands include the film ‘Doing Life’ and the series ‘Love is Blind: Nederland’.
