Netherlands loses Eurovision Song Festival board seat
The Netherlands has lost its seat on the Eurovision Song Festival Reference Group, the international body that oversees the event on behalf of participating broadcasters. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) confirmed that the loss follows the country's decision not to participate last year.
Claudia van der Pas, the Dutch delegation head, previously held a position on the group. While she was initially granted a wildcard position to remain involved after AVROTROS withdrew in December, that wildcard status expired this summer. The EBU noted that seats on the Reference Group are intended for delegation leaders who are actively performing their duties.
In contrast, Ana María Bordas of Spain's RTVE will remain the chair of the board until June 2027, despite Spain's own recent boycott of the festival. The EBU is currently undergoing reforms and intends to replace the Reference Group with a new committee in the future.
