Netherlands manager Xavi Hernández announces first squad

New Netherlands national team manager Xavi Hernández has announced his first 26-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. The selection includes veteran captain Virgil van Dijk and several players from the recent World Cup squad.

Among the new call-ups is 22-year-old PSV forward Ruben van Bommel, the son of former national team legend Mark van Bommel. Ruben, a 192cm winger, earns his first selection following a recovery from a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury. His father, who played alongside Xavi at Barcelona, expressed great pride in his son's development.

Captain Virgil van Dijk, 35, has confirmed he will continue his international career under the new management. Following discussions with Xavi, van Dijk expressed his commitment to the team, aiming to play through at least the next two years, potentially including EURO 2028.
