Netherlands municipalities announce new housing projects and early electricity connection scheme
The municipality of Zwolle is urging developers of concrete housing projects to submit applications for electricity connections by 23 August 2026. Due to increasing grid congestion, new and larger connections from 1 July are placed on a waiting list. From 1 October, municipalities can submit early requests to grid operator Enexis on behalf of developers, allowing eligible housing, school and conversion projects to move up the queue.
In the village of Buitenpost, the Achtkarspelen municipality and a developer signed an intent agreement on 13 July to build new homes on the site of a former timber factory at Kuipersweg. The plan includes three additional caravan‑site spaces. The agreement follows a council‑approved credit line in March to study expanding caravan places in the area, marking a key step toward the project’s feasibility study and detailed planning.
