Netherlands municipalities implement priority grid connections for housing
Municipalities in the Netherlands, including Losser and Aalten, are implementing measures to address electricity grid congestion that threatens to delay housing developments. Due to limited transport capacity on the power grid, new rules allow municipalities to prioritize certain housing and educational projects for grid connections.
In Losser, the local government has established policy rules for ‘earlier application’ to ensure a transparent assessment of projects. Eligible new housing projects planned for implementation within the next 10 years can apply by September 21. Projects are evaluated based on planned start dates, readiness for execution, and expected completion dates. The grid operator, Enexis, retains final authority over the distribution of available capacity.
Similarly, the municipality of Aalten is calling on developers to submit plans by September 14 to mitigate delays caused by waiting lists at the grid operator Liander. Aalten intends to create an advisory list of expected housing projects by October 1 to guide the order of applications. Both municipalities emphasize that being placed on an advisory list does not guarantee a connection, as the final decision rests with the respective grid operators.
