Netherlands national team faces scrutiny over performance and refereeing

The Netherlands national football team faces scrutiny following their match against Germany. Analyst Valentijn Driessen criticized Quinten Timber’s performance, labeling him the ‘worst Dutchman’ due to ball loss and a slow tempo in the team’s build-up play.

Referee Alejandro Hernández also drew heavy criticism from ESPN analyst Hans Kraay Jr., who called for a suspension following a disallowed goal by Virgil van Dijk. Kraay argued the decision, which cited interference by Brian Brobbey on Marc ter Stegen, was incorrect.

Regarding squad developments, Feyenoord midfielder Gjivai Zechiël is set to rejoin the senior Oranje squad on Monday after appearing for Jong Oranje. Kraay Jr. expressed support for Zechiël’s potential inclusion in the midfield, noting that Zechiël’s participation with the youth team had been pre-arranged.

Additionally, Kraay Jr. criticized the lack of public access to national team training sessions, calling it a ‘missed opportunity’ to connect the team with its supporters under coach Xavi.
