Netherlands provinces set final deadlines for municipalities to house asylum seekers

The province of South Holland has given three municipalities—Albrandswaard, Oegstgeest and Vlaardingen—a last chance to accommodate enough status‑holders by 1 July 2027, warning that it will finance any shortfall if they fail. The province also set an earlier 1 April 2027 deadline for Krimpenerwaard, Leidschendam‑Voorburg, Voorne aan Zee and Zwijndrecht, noting that most municipalities are lagging behind national housing targets for asylum seekers.

In the town of Uden, the opening of a new asylum‑seeker centre on the Boekelsedijk has been delayed beyond the planned 1 October date because of foundation work, permit setbacks, supply problems with housing units and extreme heat. About 300 asylum seekers currently housed in a Van der Valk hotel face uncertainty about their next location. The municipal council reconvened, with council member Ruud Geerders (VVD) stating, "Er is alle reden om onze inwoners zo snel mogelijk duidelijkheid te verschaffen." The COA acknowledged the delays but pledged to expedite completion.
