Netherlands housing construction set to surge in coming years

Research firm ABF predicts a strong rise in Dutch housing construction over the next two years. The forecast expects about 91,000 new homes to be completed next year and nearly 100,000 in 2027, while roughly 10,000 existing homes are demolished each year. These figures are higher than those reported by the national statistics office, reflecting the impact of the cancelled rent‑freeze plan that had limited housing‑association investment.

ABF notes that remaining obstacles such as nitrogen‑related regulations, electricity‑grid capacity and spacing rules for goat farms are limited. Housing Minister Elanor Boekholt‑O'Sullivan described the outlook as “good news” for those seeking homes and pledged close cooperation with other ministries to sustain construction levels after 2027.
