Netherlands record 14‑match World Cup unbeaten run amid Houston stadium lockdown

The Netherlands defeated Sweden 5–1 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, during the Group F match of the 2026 World Cup. The win gave the Dutch side a 14‑match unbeaten streak across three World Cups (2014, 2022 and 2026), surpassing Brazil’s previous record of 13 matches. Goals were scored by Cody Gakpo (2), Brian Brobbey (2) and Crysencio Summerville (1). Immediately after the final whistle, a severe thunderstorm triggered an emergency alert at the stadium. Venue officials instructed the approximately 68,777 spectators to remain inside and seek shelter for about 30 minutes.
