Netherlands records 500,000 migratory birds during Euro Birdwatch

During the 31st annual Euro Birdwatch event, approximately half a million migratory birds were observed in the Netherlands. Organized by Vogelbescherming Nederland, the international initiative aims to monitor bird populations and migration patterns while raising public awareness about environmental protection and biodiversity.

In specific local areas such as Diemerpark, Vijfhoek, and Landje van Geijsel, participants recorded various species. Observations included Canada geese, common teals, wood pigeons, song thrushes, and grass pipits, along with rarer sightings such as storks and a chiffchaff.

The data collected through these observations is used by ornithologists to understand migration trends and can influence future nature conservation policies and regulations in the Netherlands.
