Netherlands school cycling trip crash kills three children and an adult

A collision on the N290 road near Vogelwaarde in the Dutch province of Zeeland killed four people – three schoolchildren and an adult chaperone – during a school cycling excursion. The group of 14 children and two adults was traveling by bike when a car struck the cyclists. Two children and the school director died at the scene, while a third child later succumbed to injuries in a Rotterdam hospital. Several others were hospitalized in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Police arrested a 19‑year‑old man from Hulst as a suspect and are investigating his possible role in the crash. Authorities described the incident as a “severe traffic accident” and have provided psychological support to survivors and families. Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten called the event a tragic nightmare for the community.
