Netherlands to host 2028 World Masters Athletics Championships

The 2028 World Masters Athletics Championships will be held in the Netherlands, specifically across the cities of Breda, Etten-Leur, and Oosterhout. The decision was officially made during the World Masters Athletics (WMA) General Assembly in Daegu, South Korea.

The event was awarded to the Dutch candidacy after the previous organizer, Lima, withdrew. At the request of the WMA, the Dutch bid shifted its focus from the original 2030 target to the 2028 edition. The championship was initiated by the Atletiekunie in collaboration with local athletics clubs AV Sprint, ARV Achilles, and ATV Scorpio.

Expected to host approximately 9,000 participants from over 100 countries, the championships will feature athletes aged 35 and older, ranging from recreational competitors to former Olympians. The two-week event will include various disciplines, including sprints, long-distance running, jumping, and throwing events.
