Netinho, axé music icon, dies at 60 in Salvador
Brazilian axé music singer Netinho, born Ernesto de Souza Andrade Júnior, died on Tuesday, October 13, at age 60 in Salvador, Bahia. He passed away at Hospital Aliança Star following complications from a B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which had progressed to renal failure and multiple organ dysfunction.
Netinho rose to prominence in the late 1980s as the vocalist for Banda Beijo, known for hits like ‘Beijo na Boca’. He launched a successful solo career in 1993, achieving massive popularity with the 1996 anthem ‘Milla’. His musical influence extended internationally, with his songs becoming staples in Latin American markets.
Beyond his music, Netinho was a businessman who owned a major recording studio in Rio de Janeiro. He had previously survived three strokes in 2013. His diagnosis of lymphoma was first announced in early 2025, and despite a period of remission, the cancer recurred in 2026. Per his wishes, his funeral and cremation services will be held in a private ceremony for family and close friends.
