Netlist and Samsung Sign Five-Year Memory Patent License Deal

Netlist and Samsung Electronics have reached a five‑year agreement to license Netlist’s memory‑chip patents. The deal gives Samsung access to technologies such as server dual in‑line memory modules and high‑bandwidth memory used in AI servers and high‑performance computing. Samsung will supply Netlist with DRAM and NAND flash memory and will purchase 10 million Netlist shares under the supply agreement. Both companies agreed to settle and mutually release all pending legal actions, ending years of patent disputes.

The settlement follows a U.S. trade‑regulator investigation launched after Netlist complained of Samsung patent infringement, a probe that covers products sold by Google, Nvidia, Broadcom and Super Micro that use Samsung memory chips. Earlier U.S. jury verdicts awarded Netlist $303 million in 2023 and $118 million in 2024 over data‑processing technology in memory products. The agreement comes as demand for high‑performance memory chips surges with the expansion of AI data centers.
