Netto classifies removing shopping baskets as shoplifting

The supermarket chain Netto has implemented new internal guidelines regarding shopping baskets. A notice posted at store entrances informs customers that removing a shopping basket from the store premises will now be classified as shoplifting.

This measure was introduced in response to the frequent loss of baskets, which creates an economic burden for retailers due to replacement costs. The signage is positioned at entry and exit points to ensure all shoppers are aware that transporting baskets to vehicles may result in theft accusations.
