Network Rail invests millions in UK track upgrades

Network Rail has completed a £7.1 million infrastructure upgrade on the East Coast Main Line to improve service resilience between London and Edinburgh. The three-week project involved replacing thousands of meters of track, upgrading eight switch systems, and modernizing overhead wire equipment and drainage systems. Key improvements include the installation of 3.2 kilometers of new track near Heaton North, Morpeth, and Shortridge to reduce weather-related delays.

In a separate regional project, a £1.5 million investment is being directed toward renewing 1.2 kilometers of track near Snelland, Lincolnshire. This work aims to replace life-expired components on the route between Lincoln and Cleethorpes to prevent future speed restrictions and maintenance issues. The Lincolnshire project includes temporary closures of the Snelland level crossing and the use of replacement bus services during the construction period.
