Network Rail repairs infrastructure after Stourbridge wildfires

Network Rail has launched a major repair operation to restore railway infrastructure between Stourbridge Junction and Hagley following devastating wildfires. The blaze, which began on Thursday, August 13, affected approximately 40 acres of land and caused significant damage to signalling equipment, telecommunications systems, and lineside fencing.

The fires also had a severe impact on the local community, destroying 19 properties and damaging 18 homes. The closure of this rail link has disrupted essential transport connections for residents in Stourbridge, Kidderminster, and the wider Black Country.

Engineering teams began repair work on August 17 and are working to restore the route safely. While the scale of the damage is substantial, the current target is to fully reopen the line on Saturday, August 22. Denise Wetton of GBR West Midlands expressed sympathy for those impacted by the fires and urged passengers to check travel plans before commuting.
