Network4 calls for 10-year bipartisan primary care strategy in New Zealand

Network4, a group representing over 1.8 million New Zealanders through organizations including Pegasus Health, Pinnacle Group, ProCare, and Tū Ora Compass Health, has released an election manifesto calling for a bipartisan 10-year strategy for primary care.

The group argues that frequent policy changes due to short political cycles hinder long-term planning, innovation, and the ability to meet rising demand. Network4 chair Barry Bragg stated that a stable, long-term direction is necessary to maintain general practice as the effective ‘front door’ of the health system.

The manifesto outlines five key priorities: • Establishing a bipartisan 10-year primary care strategy. • Implementing sustainable funding that reflects actual care costs. • Developing a sustainable primary care workforce. • Delivering more healthcare closer to home. • Investing in nationally connected digital health systems to reduce administrative burdens.
