Neuenhäusen local council urged to preserve historic Schäferbrunnen

In Neuenhäusen, local mayor Jörg Rodenwaldt has submitted a motion to the local council to ensure the preservation and professional maintenance of the Schäferbrunnen (Shepherd's Fountain) located in the Celler Triftanlagen.

The monument, which has over 100 years of history, is considered a significant piece of local cultural heritage. Originally donated in 1912, the fountain's current shellsculpture was created by sculptor Gerda Hotzen-Sautter in 1955 after the original bronze figure was melted down for war purposes.

Due to a lack of recent cleaning, the monument shows visible signs of weathering and pollution. The motion aims to compel the city to implement regular cleaning and professional care to prevent further loss of substance and preserve the landmark's historical identity.
