Neumarkt and Wiesbaden kick off summer festivals with ceremonial beer openings

In Neumarkt, the Jura‑Volksfest began with a traditional Zwickelprobe on 16 July 2026. Mayor Markus Ochsenkühn, brewers Michael and Franz Gloßner Jr., and representatives from the city and the Glossner brewery sampled the four‑week‑old, unfiltered Festbier. The brew, at over 5 % alcohol and 13.5 % original gravity, was praised for its amber colour, fine foam and balanced taste, with further maturation expected to improve its profile. The festival runs from 7 to 17 August, featuring a parade, family programmes and new events such as a dance night, while the price of a Maß remains €10.70.

Wiesbaden’s 117th Gibber Kerb opened with mayor Gert‑Uwe Mende tapping the first barrel, a moment accompanied by applause and remarks thanking the many volunteers who organise the event. The mayor highlighted the festival’s role in fostering community cohesion. After the beer‑opening, longstanding members were honoured, and the day concluded with the traditional Gaudiwettbewerb, a two‑person contest featuring typical fair games. The festivities continue through Monday, offering music, food and family‑friendly activities.
