Neunkirchen Mayor Jörg Aumann faces potential removal vote

The Neunkirchen city council is set to vote on November 4 regarding a motion to initiate removal proceedings against Mayor Jörg Aumann. The motion, introduced by the Free Voters/FDP faction, seeks to trigger a process that could culminate in a public referendum.

To initiate the proceedings, 26 out of 51 council members must support the motion. The SPD faction has reportedly voted unanimously to not oppose the initiation of the process. Support has also been signaled by the CDU and AfD factions. If the motion passes, a subsequent two-thirds majority in the council would be required to proceed to a citizen vote.

Mayor Aumann is currently under investigation by the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office on suspicion of breach of trust. The investigation involves two alleged incidents related to the Neunkirchen Transport Company (NVG), specifically concerning travel expenses for trips to SPD federal party conventions.
