Neuquén and Mendoza governors agree to energy and mining cooperation
Governors Rolando Figueroa of Neuquén and Alfredo Cornejo of Mendoza have established a cooperation agenda to strengthen the energy and mining sectors through regional integration. The agreement focuses on coordinating provincial resources and integrating local suppliers to enhance competitiveness in international markets.
During meetings in Mendoza, the leaders emphasized that provincial jurisdictions should act as allies rather than competitors. Figueroa noted that the primary competition for Argentina's natural resources comes from other nations, and that coordinated work can transform these resources into a strategic advantage.
The initiative involves the Cuyo Mining and Energy Supplier Cluster (Cpromec), an organization aimed at articulating the productive capacities of regional companies, particularly in the metalworking industry. The goal is to strengthen local value chains and distribute the economic opportunities generated by major projects like Vaca Muerta across multiple provinces, including Mendoza, Neuquén, Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, and Córdoba.
