Neuquén authorities investigate hantavirus death in Ruca Choroi
Health authorities in Neuquén, Argentina, have launched an epidemiological investigation following the death of a 26-year-old man from the rural area of Ruca Choroi. The patient died on August 17 at the Zapala Hospital after being diagnosed with hantavirus.
According to Angélica Uglich, director of the Aluminé Area Hospital, the patient performed field work in rural areas and experienced a rapid decline in health. After initially seeking medical attention on August 15, his condition worsened, requiring mechanical ventilation in intensive care before he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.
The Ministry of Health of Neuquén, along with regional sanitary authorities, has activated protocols to determine the circumstances of the infection and identify any individuals at risk of exposure. Preliminary findings indicate the deceased had previously observed rodents in the area.
