Neuquén Governor calls for resignation of Mayor José Carlos Asaad

The Justicialist Party (PJ) of Neuquén and Governor Rolando Figueroa have called for the resignation of José Carlos Asaad following allegations of gender-based violence. Asaad currently serves as the mayor of Vista Alegre and the president of the provincial PJ.

In a formal document, PJ leaders expressed support for the complainant and stated that the gravity of the allegations is incompatible with Asaad holding high executive responsibility within the party while the facts are being clarified. Governor Figueroa echoed these sentiments, stating that if the allegations are proven true, Asaad must resign. Figueroa emphasized a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ regarding gender violence and confirmed that provincial authorities have provided assistance to the victim.

Asaad has denied the allegations and indicated he will present evidence to the judiciary to defend himself.
