Neuquén health authorities confirm chickenpox outbreak in two schools
The Ministry of Health in Neuquén, Argentina, has confirmed 24 cases of chickenpox linked to two technical schools: EPET N.° 17 and EPET N.° 20. The outbreak primarily affects students aged 13 to 15.
Health officials noted that the affected students belong to cohorts born before October 2013, a period when the chickenpox vaccine was not yet included in the National Vaccination Calendar. One student has been hospitalized since October 8 due to uncontrollable itching, though authorities report the patient is evolving favorably without further complications.
As part of the epidemiological investigation, health officials are monitoring close contacts, including a pregnant woman and a 16-month-old infant who currently show no symptoms. Protocols have been activated to isolate affected students and evaluate potential further spread.
