Neuquén launches free mammography night as diet advice highlights breast cancer prevention
Argentina’s Neuquén province is offering free mammograms on May 24 as part of its "Noche de las mamos" campaign. A mobile mammography unit will operate from 18:00 to 23:00 at Parque Jaime de Nevares, with no prior appointment required and priority given to women without social coverage. The initiative targets residents aged 30 and older, regardless of medical referral, and will be replicated on the 24th of each month across additional health centers.
Health experts also emphasize that diet can influence breast‑cancer risk. Studies cited by researchers point to five foods that may lower the likelihood of developing the disease: fish and seafood (rich in omega‑3 fatty acids), carrots (high in carotene), olive oil (containing monounsaturated fats and polyphenols), red berries (rich in antioxidants) and broccoli (source of sulforaphane). Conversely, processed foods, high‑sugar items, red meat, and excessive alcohol are advised to be limited. Together, screening and dietary guidance aim to improve early detection and reduce breast‑cancer incidence in the region.
