Neuquén launches urban development plan for 1,700 housing units
The city of Neuquén and the provincial government have launched an urban development project to create 1,700 housing solutions in an area previously used as an open-air landfill. The initiative includes 1,100 serviced lots and 600 collective housing units to be developed by the provincial state.
Marcos Zapata, president of the Municipal Institute of Urbanism and Habitat (IMUH), noted that initial works required significant machinery to clear large amounts of waste from the site near the North Highway. The first stage, consisting of 570 lots, is currently undergoing street opening and block consolidation, with water, gas, electricity, sewage, and public lighting expected to be completed by March 2027.
Mayor Mariano Gaido and Governor Rolando Figueroa highlighted the project as a response to the city's rapid population growth. The program also features a unique financing scheme involving non-bank loans to facilitate access to the land.
