Neuquén police under investigation after man dies in hospital
New video footage has emerged providing evidence in the investigation of José Galeano, who died following a police intervention at the Heller Hospital in Neuquén, Argentina.
The recording, captured by a witness, shows Galeano handcuffed and lying face down while being restrained by police officers. During the footage, Galeano is seen pleading for help, while officers are observed pulling his hair and delivering a kick to his genital area.
According to the investigation, Galeano arrived at the hospital's mental health unit in the early morning hours armed with a knife. While officers Marcelo Orellana and Gino Facci successfully convinced him to drop the weapon, the subsequent restraint maneuvers reportedly caused fractures to his ribs and sternum.
Four police officers have been charged with simple homicide committed in excess of their duties. However, the legal representatives for Galeano’s children are seeking more severe charges, alleging that the officers are co-authors of torture resulting in death.
