Neuquén prosecutors and producers meet to address rural security

Prosecutors and agricultural producers met in Junín de los Andes during the XV Expo Bovinos to discuss critical challenges facing the rural sector in Neuquén. The meeting, which included Neuquén Attorney General José Gerez and representatives from the Sociedad Rural del Neuquén, focused on improving security and communication between the justice system and the agricultural community.

Key issues addressed included rural insecurity, specifically cattle theft (abigeato) and clandestine slaughter. Producers also raised concerns regarding water access for agricultural production, requesting simplified authorization processes for water catchment. Additionally, the impact of stray dogs on livestock, wildlife, and public health was identified as a significant problem.

In response to these concerns, provincial secretariats for Environment and Production proposed conducting technical field visits to various rural establishments to diagnose local situations and develop updated regulatory proposals.
