Patagonia commemorates 140 years since the birth of Ceferino Namuncurá
Commemorations are underway in the Patagonia region to mark the 140th anniversary of the birth of Ceferino Namuncurá. The events draw hundreds of faithful, including large groups of children and adolescents, to various religious and cultural sites.
In Chimpay, festivities have centered around the local sanctuary, where religious leaders have noted the ongoing process regarding his canonization. Meanwhile, in the San Ignacio area, the Santuario Kultrún serves as a focal point where Christian spirituality and Mapuche identity converge. The sanctuary, which houses the remains of the blessed Ceferino, features architecture inspired by the sacred Mapuche instrument, the kultrún.
Traditional pilgrimages also continue, including a horseback procession organized by local gauchos traveling through Neuquén del Medio toward Challacó to honor his memory.
