Neuquén to implement toll system on Provincial Route 7
Neuquén Governor Rolando Figueroa has announced the implementation of a new toll system on Provincial Route 7, specifically at the Picada 19 location, scheduled to begin in January 2027. The system will utilize free flow technology to allow vehicles to pass without stopping at physical booths, complemented by dynamic scales to monitor the weight of heavy cargo vehicles.
The toll is designed to target heavy transport from other jurisdictions, including international transit between Chile and Chile that utilizes Argentine routes. To mitigate local impact, the administration confirmed that private vehicles and trucks registered in Neuquén will be exempt from these charges.
This initiative is part of the Neuquén Road Plan, a large-scale infrastructure project. The provincial government is also working on a pre-financing scheme with companies operating in the Vaca Muerta region to extend the road network toward the Chilean border.
In the neighboring province of La Pampa, legislators have proposed a similar measure. Deputies Espartaco Marín, Marcela Páez, and León Nicanoff introduced a bill to charge a special contribution on trucks transporting sand to Vaca Muerta. They cited a significant increase in heavy traffic on provincial routes—rising from 200 to 1,000 trucks per day—which they claim is causing severe damage to the local road network.
