Neurizon Therapeutics secures NIH funding and appoints new CEO

Neurizon Therapeutics has secured a multi-year, multimillion-dollar grant from the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) to fund an Expanded Access Protocol (EAP) for its investigational ALS therapy, NUZ-001. The program, administered through the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS, aims to provide NUZ-001 access for up to 96 weeks to approximately 200 individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis who are ineligible for current clinical trials.

The EAP will operate alongside the Phase 2/3 HEALEY ALS Platform Trial, where NUZ-001 is currently being evaluated. The program will utilize approximately 20 physical clinical sites and a national virtual study site to reach patients across 50 US states. Data collection will focus on safety, tolerability, survival, and functional measures, with topline results from the primary trial expected in late Q2 2027.

In a separate leadership development, Neurizon Therapeutics has appointed Dr. Chris Bremer as Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1. Dr. Bremer, who possesses extensive experience in international pharmaceutical leadership, previously held senior roles at Grünenthal and Navigo Proteins. He will lead the company as it advances its NUZ-001 candidate through its registrational trials.
