Neurocosmetics explores the connection between skincare and the nervous system

The beauty industry is seeing a rise in neurocosmetics, a trend focused on the relationship between the skin and the nervous system. These products aim to provide emotional payoffs through sensory rituals, specific textures, and ingredients designed to address stress-related processes within the skin.

Experts note a distinction between treating skin stress and psychological stress. While the skin has its own stress-response mechanisms and can produce cortisol, scientists suggest that proving an ingredient can change a person's emotional state is a significant scientific challenge. A product may improve the appearance of stressed skin without necessarily altering the user's mental state.
