Neurologist advises alcohol elimination for adults over 65
Neurologist Dr. Richard Restak recommends that individuals aged 65 and older completely eliminate alcohol from their diets. In his work regarding memory and dementia prevention, Restak describes alcohol as a “direct neurotoxin” that can damage nerve cells and increase the risk of falls, which can have severe consequences for older adults.
In addition to alcohol concerns, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises seniors to be cautious with specific foods due to a higher risk of hospitalization from bacteria such as Salmonella and Listeria. High-risk items include raw or undercooked meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood, as well as unpasteurized dairy products, unwashed produce, and deli salads. Medical professionals, such as Dr. Giuseppe Aragona, suggest these food safety principles remain broadly applicable in the UK.
