Neuromodulation advances rehabilitation for children and adolescents
Neuromodulation techniques are being integrated into hospitals and specialized centers to enhance the rehabilitation of children and adolescents. These non-invasive methods, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), serve as complementary tools to traditional therapies like physiotherapy and speech therapy by promoting neuroplasticity.
Research indicates that tDCS shows promise in regulating behavior and reducing repetitive actions in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, while rTMS is used for treating depression and anxiety. Other technologies include neurofeedback and biofeedback to regulate brain activity and physiological responses. Experts emphasize that these tools do not replace conventional therapies but create optimal conditions for the brain to respond to rehabilitation stimuli.
In the field of neuromotor rehabilitation, the Associação Mineira de Reabilitação (AMR) provides free specialized care to children and adolescents with physical disabilities in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability. The institution is currently accepting registrations until September 10 for its waiting list to provide multidisciplinary treatment.
